On the flight to Chicago.
The journey to the airport was more than slightly stressful. Ridiculously slow moving traffic meant that Dad had to drop me and Mum off outside the terminal, while he attempted to find somewhere to park. Me and Mum went inside to sort out check in which also proved more difficult than anticipated. We couldn’t figure out the check in machine. Luckily both of my bags were under the 23kg weight limit (surprisingly) and so that was easy enough. We went upstairs to get some lunch at Costa where Mum went through her usual embarrassing photo moments before I met up with Laura and Pete so that we could check our hand luggage in. Saying goodbye to Mum and Dad wasn’t so fun.
Last time I went to the USA was 2008 and I remember it taking a whole lot longer to get through check in, perhaps this is because there were seven of us- but either way today was surprisingly quick.
Once we got through we had a little bit of time to have a look at the duty-free shops. I was tempted by Miss Dior Cherie… but I saved my money- or not. I ended up having a look in Dixons, where they had a little HD camcorder which can be used underwater aswell, and has camera features for £310, of course it didn’t end up £310 once you added the £40 memory card on…. But either way. It’s pretty nice. I’ve had a little go with it on the flight but the quality looks appalling, I’m hoping its just the lighting in here…
My little in-flight entertainment isn’t working, to be honest the films they are showing look boooooring anyway, but it’s irritating that it doesn’t work considering how much this flight cost!!! I ended up watching “The Grudge 2” on my laptop instead, I’m not sure if it’s just that I didn’t understand it but I thought it was one of the most ridiculous films I’ve seen.
Only half way through the flight, I’m hoping I can get some sleep so that it goes faster. But I hate sleeping in public..
When we get into Chicago we have a couple of hours before we get the transfer to Dakota before being picked up and heading into Minnesota.
What an odd day.
I’m excited to just be there now, unpack, make myself at home, meet new friends.
Right now all I can think about is how I’ve left all of my friends and the people I care about thousands of miles away back at home.
I’m sure by tomorrow I’ll feel better about it all. Waking up in the flat is going to be so so weird. I’ve never even been abroad without my family before!
Man, this is all so weird and surreal.
I should probably save some battery life as I’ve left my charger in my main luggage.
Hopefully I’ll get logged onto the internet later today so that I can upload this blog.
Edit: Still no films. Legs ache, can’t sleep. Americans can’t make tea. When I said “white tea” I didn’t literally mean WHITE.
RE: The diet coke tastes different. The cans are bigger. I still can’t figure out how to use my video camera. Legs hurt. Less than an hour to go!
